There is the Olkhon island near the northwest shore of lake Baikal. Olkhon is the heart of ancient stories and historical legendaries.

Cheremkhovo Cheremkhovo is a town of region subordination and the centre of the Cheremkhovsky District of Irkutsk Region.
Foundation of Cheremkhovo: in 1772, town status in 1917.

Town of Subordination: Svirsk.
Geographic Coordinates of Cheremkhovo: 53°13′N 103°02′E; located on the Irkutsk-Cheremkhovo Plain.
Zone Standard Time: MSD (Moscow Daylight Time) +5 hours

Total Area of Cheremkhovo: 117 km2.
Population of Cheremkhovo: 56 000 (1939); 121 700 (1959); 73 600 (1989); 70 500 (1998); 55 600(2006).

There is the church of St Nicholas at Golumet village of the Cheremkhovsky District of Irkutsk Region.

History of Cheremkhovo

It was founded as a village in 1772 near a post house on the Moscow tract. The first coal mine of the Irkutsky (Cheremkhovsky) coal basin was opened in 1896. During construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway a great amount of mines as well as industrial communities near these mines had been built. There were 89 industrial communities in 1906.
