There is the Olkhon island near the northwest shore of lake Baikal. Olkhon is the heart of ancient stories and historical legendaries.

Usolye-Sibirskoye Usolye-Sibirskoye is a town of region subordination and the centre of the Usolsky District of Irkutsk Region.
Foundation of Usolye-Sibirskoye: в 1669, town status in 1925.

Geographic Coordinates of Usolye-Sibirskoye: 52°50′N 103°34′E; located on the Irkutsk-Cheremkhovo Plain, on the left side of the Angara River.
Zone Standard Time: MSD (Moscow Daylight Time) +5 hours

Total Area of Usolye-Sibirskoye: 73 km2.
Population of Usolye-Sibirskoye: 20 000 (1939); 48 500 (1959); 106 600 (1989); 104 300 (1998); 86 900 (2006).
Renamings: Usolye (1669-1940).

There is the Kazan church at Telma village (1816).

Archaeological Sites of Usolye-Sibirskoye

There are Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic and the Iron Age early man sites along the Belaya River. There are the similarly-named balneo-mud resort, health resorts and the balneary.The balneological resort area Novoe Usolye is located 40 km from Usolye-Sibirskoye.

History of Usolye-Sibirskoye:

The town was founded in 1669 under the name Usolye, an archaic Russian word for a salt producing town, by cossacks who had discovered salt deposits in a nearby spring. Ever since its inception, the main industry of the town has been salt-mining. The opening of a major mine in 1956 saw the town become Russia's largest producer of table salt, as well as the development of related chemical industries such as Usolyekhimprom. There is also heavy machinery assembly, including mining equipment produced by the company Usolyemash.
