There is the Olkhon island near the northwest shore of lake Baikal. Olkhon is the heart of ancient stories and historical legendaries.

Bokhansky District of Irkutsk Region The Bokhansky District of Irkutsk Region was founded in autumn of 1922. It is one of the one of the largest agricultural areas of the Ust-Orda Buryat Autonomous Okrug. The district borders on the Usolsky District of Irkutsk Region, the Cheremkhovsky District of Irkutsk Region in the south-west, on the Osinsky District of Irkutsk Region in the north, on the Ekhirit-Bulagatsky District of Irkutsk Region and the Irkutsky District of Irkutsk Region in the soth-east. Total area of the Bokhansky District of Irkutsk Region is 3 700 km2 or 16% of the Ust-Orda Buryat Autonomous Okrug.

The centre of the district is Bokhan settlement located 100 km from the centre of the Okrug , Ust-Orda settlement, and 128 km from the city of Irkutsk.

The Bokhansky District of Irkutsk Region is an administrative and municipal district which comprises the following rural localities as independent municipal formations
united by general territory: the municipal formation “Aleksandrovskoe” of Aleksandrovskoe settlement, the municipal formation “Bokhan” of Bokhan settlement, the municipal formation “Buret” of Buret settlement, the municipal formation “Kazachie” of Kazachie settlement, the municipal formation “Kamenka” of Kamenka settlement, the municipal formation “Novaya-Ida” of Novaya-Ida settlement, the municipal formation “Olonki” of Olonki settlement, the municipal formation “Seredkino” of Seredkino settlement, the municipal formation “Tarasa” of Tarasa settlement, the municipal formation “Tikhonovka” of Tikhonovka settlement, the municipal formation “Ukyr” of Ukyr settlement, the municipal formation “Khokhorsk” of Khokhorsk settlement, the municipal formation “Saraldai” of Dundai settlement.

There are 74 settlements over the whole territory of the Bokhansky District.

The climate of the district is District is strongly continental. Winter is long and hard, summer is relatively short and hot. Average annual precipitation is 300-350 mm per year. Snow cover depth varies within 25-40 centimeters. North-west and south-east winds prevail during the year.

Soils of the Bokhansky District are valuable shallow and middle-deep chernozem-like, grey-forest and calcareous brown soils. Natural fertility is lessened in a result of long practical use.

Agroclimatic conditions of the Bokhansky District of Irkutsk Region are favorable for agriculture. The district is represented by plains and forest steppes with smooth relief features and roughness in river valleys and beams. Effective heat sum is from 1400C to 1700C. Vegetative period is warm and lukewarm, lasts from 80 to125 days, average temperature of July is about +17 or 18C. Vegetative period begins on the 4th -6th of May and ends on the 2nd-7th of September and it helps to cultivate huge amounts of agricultural crops. Limiting factors are spring and summer draughts and early spring and fall frosts. Accumulated temperatures are from 1450 to1550С, precipitations are from 280 to 320 mm per year.
