Nukutsky District of Irkutsk Region Geographical Setting of Nukutsky District of Irkutsk Region

The Nukutsky District of Irkutsk Region is located in the south-western part of Irkutsk Region and is an administrative division of Ust-Orda Buryat Autonomous Okrug. The District borders on the Balagansky District of Irkutsk Region in the north, the Alarsky District of Irkutsk Region in the south-east, the Zalarinsky District of Irkutsk Region in the south-west and the Ziminsky District of Irkutsk Region in the west. The District is bounded on the east by the Bratsk Reservoir.

The total area of the Nukutsky District of Irkutsk Region is 2400 square km.

Population of Nukutsky District of Irkutsk Region

Total Population of the Nukutsky District as of 1.01.2008 is 16 925 inhabitants. Average population is 483 inhabitants for a settlement, Average population of rural administration is 1 693 inhabitants.

The ethnic composition of the Nukutsky District is the Russians, the Buryats, the Tartars, the Ukrainians, the Lithuanians and others.

The administrative center is Novonukutsky urban-type settlement (4 512 inhabitants as of 1.01.2008).

The distance to the regional centre is 250 km.

Climate of Nukutsky District of Irkutsk Region

Climate is strongly continental and characterized by seasonal and diurnal heat variation. Winter is cold, the temperature in January is from 22,5С to -50С. Summer is dry and hot, the temperature in July is from+18,3С to 36С.

Natural Resources of Nukutsky District of Irkutsk Region

The main resources are gypsum and coal. There are also building materials such as sand, clay, gravel, lime and timber.

The Nukutsky District of Irkutsk Region is rich in sulfurous water containing H2S units which is more than in the balneological resort “Matsesta” in Sochi (200 H2H units). There are also Izhevsk mineral water-type mineral springs
